Brutalism: Concrete in Context

A series of images from the campus of York University, exploring the rigid, sturdy forms of its Ross Building. An exercise in framing and use of natural light, the remnants of a construction site break into ethereal spaces of endless depth, creating an odd, alien scene. 

Brutalism is a style of architecture founded in the use of raw concrete and characterized by a lack of ornamentation, large scale, and "monolithic" presence. Its name comes from the French "béton brut", raw concrete.
